Drinking and Pregnant

F- Drinking while pregnant increases the risk of miscarriages and stillbirths.

I- How much Alcohol is too much during Pregnancy?

V- I don't think its a good idea to drink while pregnant. Whether people say its okay or not because we truly never know what could happen. Its not fair to the baby inside you to mistreat it and abuse it before it even has a chance.

E- I've been pregnant 3 times and never ever once did I drink while I was pregnant. I don't believe its good to do this. Or anything else that could potentially hurt the baby or cause it to not develop properly. All my children came out very healthy with nothing wrong with them.

F- Pit Bulls are just like any other dogs. Only they are a little stronger than others.

I- Do you think pitbulls are to blame for being aggressive?
Should the ban on these dogs be lifted?

V- I believe all dogs can be aggressive. Its all in the way the owner treats their animal. I believe pitbulls are just like kids and need love and attention, punishment and to know boundaries within a home. Most important who the alpha is or he will walk all over you. I think this pit bull ban in Ontario is absolutely disgusting and lifting it is the fairest thing to do. As this type of dog is not the only deadly animal that we should fear. All dogs are.

E- I had a pit bull for a very long time. He was my very best friend. He is gone now unfortunately but he was just like a little person. The look in his eyes you could see what emotion he was expressing. He was very very smart, walked without a leash and it was almost like he understood everything you were saying to him. Pit bulls aren't meant to be belittled because of the things the owners make them do. They are one of the most caring and respectful dog I've ever had and I've had a few.

Child Development

F- 1 in 5 Ontario children and youth has a mental health problem.
  Thats about 500,000 children.

I-  How can a young teen realize if they have a mental health disorder?

V- I think it can be hard to realize if you have a disorder. Although as someone going through all kinds of changes as a young teen I do believe if there is something seriously wrong with them or if something feels off within themselves to themselves they would know before anyone else would.

E- About a year after I had my first daughter I got really badly depressed and it took me some time to realize that that is what it was. My mother in law was actually the one that gave my head a shake to make me see how I was acting towards everything and everyone around me. Thank god I caught it before it got too outta hand and seen a doctor. I haven't had any troubles with it since.

There are so many kinds of bullying in the world, so many of these bullies don't understand and don't care about the repercussions of their actions even if its the bully saying mean things to a person.
Bullying has an emotional, physical, and mental effects on a person. Sometimes people cannot handle being bullied and kill or hurt themselves or the person thats bullying.

I remember as a kid in high school their being this one kid who just didn't fit in. He had a hard time making friends and even just getting threw the day without being picked on. Everyday I watched as he was pushed around and called names like four eyes and bimbo, or jolly green giant because he was so tall and just big.
After 6 or 7 months of watching this I couldn't handle it anymore so I became friends with him. All he wanted was a friend to talk to and to help him with this bully problem. Everyone else absolutely refused or turned a blind eye.
Him and I became very close friends threw the time that I was at high school. We would meet n walk to and from school everyday. Eat lunch together, and I even would walk him to his classes.
Eventually the bullies left him alone but I remember my friend telling me at one point threw this how he thought about suicide.
He thought about how he could get back at these kids in a very harmful way.
A couple years after I left high school I heard his mother died and that he had found her in the kitchen on the floor.
And at the time he was finishing his last year of school and because of this it made him very depressed and he started to get bullied again. I wasn't there to help him. At this point I was gone to Calgary.
One day I got a phone call from his sister telling me that he had walked out in front of a transport truck in front of her house cause he just couldn't take it anymore.
I thought I could help, but unfortunately it only lasted a short time before he took his life.

People don't understand the severity of a life taken from bullying.

Family Roles- Socialization
Standing up for my younger brother

When I was 15 my parents split up and my mom, little brother and myself moved out and into a town house. A few months into moving my brother at 8/9 years old started to make some friends within the complex.
My little brother has always been a little different than other kids and had a hard time fitting in, always felt outta sorts. So the kids he made friends with either were like him or were more portrayed as leaders and my brother the follower being told what to do. As a kid in society having a hard time fitting in he usually ended up as the one in trouble because he listened to being told what to do in the circle of “friends.” Usually getting in trouble.
One day my brother was outside playing with the other kids in the complex, they all were getting along great. This little boy began to scream and yell at my brother because Taylor (my brother) just simply wasn't listening to him.
So Taylor came running to me and told me what was going on.
As a big sister, I felt like I needed to stand up for my brother, to stand by his side and not allow this kid to boss my brother around. I went over to this kid and asked him to stop being so rude to him because they were friends and friends shouldn't act like that with each other. That if he didn't just play nice I was going to go talk to his parents.

Thank god a few hours after that they started playing nice again.
The things we lost in the Fire

Questions

  1. What kind of family does this portray?
  2. Does “mom” play a typical role?
  3. How do the children “cope” with the situation?

Answers

  1. This portrays a nuclear family. But then I think it in some ways becomes blended because Jerry comes into the picture and plays more of a father role for the children and helps them threw dealing with the death of their father.
  2. Ya to me mom plays a typical role. I believe any wife would act that ways or worse after her husband dies. Also before Brian dies.
  3. I think the children cope better with the situation than some kids would. The little boy seemed to have accepted his dad being gone a little better than the little girl did. He allowed Jerry to be around and help him swim and the little girl wasn’t sure.

F- Audrey became very depressed after Brian died.
I- Why do you think the kids warmed up to Jerry so quick?
I think they warmed up to him because he was there and willing to help and be a part of their lives. Was good to them and didn't push them into anything they didn't wanna do.
V- I think the movie was heartwarming and very much real as to the family and the impact a death like that would take on a family. Especially a family with small children. It even made me cry a little at one point.

E- I haven't yet lost any of my parents thank god but I have lost my grandparent whom I was very close to and it ripped my heart out and it took me a long time to just accept the fact that I could see or touch or talk to them. That they wouldn't be their for christmases or birthdays anymore like they were every other year.

Spanking Your Child

Is spanking your child a form of abuse?

F- You may legally spank your child under the criminal code Section 43

V-  I think spanking becomes a form of abuse when you get out of control with spanking. Spanking your child repeatedly till bruises or marks are left. I believe a stern smack on the bum gives them a moment to step back and realize what they're doing so you can explain to your child what it is that they were doing wrong and why they got that spank.
E- I have spanked my kids to give them that minute to step back and realize what they're doing. And it gives them a realization of uh oh what did i do wrong to get that smack. Then we sit down and talk about it. Or in my 2 yr old's case I just tell her why she got a spank and she says okay mommy i'm sorry and we go on about or day.

Children of War

In 1933 in Poland the holocaust began. Where the Germans imprisoned many Jews. Germans deported jews from all over Europe to these "ghettos."
The Nazis established special mobile killing squads called “Einsatzgruppen” who were attached to the German armed forces and their only objective was to murder all Jews.
This they did with unrelenting efficiency, but shooting thousands of men, women, and children at close range every day. Day after day.
The Germans then set up special concentration camps. One for men, one for women and one for children.

Over 1 million children died during the holocaust.
Plucked from their homes and stripped of their childhoods.
Homeless, orphaned children often witnessed their mothers, fathers, siblings, families murdered by starvation, illness, brutal labour, until confined to the gas chambers. Children that were born in the camps were killed instantly.

JEWISH AID AND RESCUE

The rescue of children began even before the onset of World War II.  The Youth Aliyah was a movement group that rescued and brought more than 14000 to Palestine and Britain between 1933 and 1945.
Another movement group known as movement for the Care of Children rescued and brought more than 10000 children between 1938 and 1939. All children were without parents so the operation was known as Kindertransport.

Youth Aliyah Child Rescue

Youth Aliyah has become an amazing child rescue organization over an amazing 80 years.
They have over 2500 children who have made Youth Aliyah a home. Since the rescue in WWII the rescue of children from neglect, abuse, families not able to cope, orphans, or simply cause their parents could not integrate into society. They have 6 youth villages, schools dorms, clubhouses and playgrounds.

Kindertransport
Association of Jewish Refugees

The Kindertransport known now as the KT-AJR provides social welfare and to the victims of WWII. With the support provided by their social services department,  the AJR has a nationwide network of regional groups offering members an opportunity to socialize and enjoy entertainment in their area. They can also obtain assistance from volunteers on welfare rights and Holocaust reparations.
The KT-AJR also has a Childs survivors Association which is a self-support group for child survivors of the Holocaust and their partners. It includes the children who survived in ghettos, in hiding, on the run and in camps. They offer emotional support an started d run a series of social activities through the year.

My Interpretation on The Holocaust

In WWII the Germans walked threw countries and murdered millions of innocent men, women and children because Hitler believed they were a lesser evolved people and believed that they stole victory in WWI.
Hitler and the Nazis also thought that people could be divided into different races and that there was a struggle going on between these different races. According to the Nazis the ‘Aryan race’ was the best and strongest race. Jews were of another inferior race. In fact so inferior that they were not considered to be ‘people’ by the Nazis.

Hitler ravage children without question or consequences.  Beat, raped and murdered woman. starved, made the men over work themselves till they were too sick to even stand. And when they were done with them they'd send them all to different concentration camps and ready them for the deadly gases to kill them.
Children suffered the most as they were ripped from their families and torn of being a child. They had sit back and watch as the soldiers brutally tortured and murdered their families and sent them to the camps to die.
Children back then were lucky if they made friends or allowed to get a glimpse of family member through fences, or passing by.

Some Jewish families found shelter to hide under floors, in attics, secret rooms, the woods, etc. But sometimes they were found out and murdered on the spot along with those who were helping them no matter whether they were German or not.
This one family even hid in a cave.

Its absolutely astonishing how brave some Jews were to save themselves and their partners and children. The amazing and heartbreaking stories of those who survived the holocaust and are able to tell their side of the horror.

Action To End Youth Homelessness

F-  Youth must have an active role in designing plans to prevent or end their homelessness.

I- How come our provincial governments from around the world cannot come together to put something together to end youth homelessness?

V- Ive seen youth homelessness in so many different provinces and theres no help and no support for them to help themselves under the age of 16 that actually want to become better and get themselves out of homelessness. Its very depressing. Theres nothing for youth homelessness in this world. That’s mostly how come our children end up in jail on drugs alcohol in drop in centres, sleeping under bridges….etc.

E- A lot of them have said that if they had support of some kind and encouragement maybe they’d want to or feel like they can. but how can they do that when the government especially allows it and does nothing to prevent it. If there was help for prevention of youth homelessness maybe our children would be encouraged to change the world. I met this couple while I was living in Montreal who were working their butts off to get them off the streets and into at least an apartment to start and they did it. It took a lot for them to accomplish this but they did it.
